Political

The Word

“Think of a word as a pendulum instead of a fixed entity.” Rita Mae Brown

“Shot” the TV said

and the word shot through me

that a person had taken

some words. Gave them meaning

of his own creation, cultural

in rooms of paranoia

making up his mind, alone

pushing the dominos

leaving 6 dead, shot.

Lives run out early, shot.

Mistook his action

as a calling, spent it shot through.

When others finally stopped him.

Many reluctant heroes, services

That might have stopped him,

Budgets shot. A little eight

year old girl’s chances for service,

shot. Gun control

in the political arena, shot.

A police chief fires a salvo

For less angry dialogues on TV, shot.

Politicians and their staffs fearing their

Constituents, safety shot. Words shooting

through us all. Free speech with

responsibility, shot down and bleeding
